Haeufig gestellte Fragen. People tell me my German is out of date. "We have a modern word for it", they tell me. "Nowadays we say 'FAQ'". I had the same problem with "Textverarbeitungsprogram" (and with a word like that, who wouldn't?). The modern word for it is apparently "ein Wordprocessor". So now you know.

Questions about the site.

Who are you?

My name is Stuart Arnold. I have collected cards since I was a small boy, having started with Brooke Bond tea cards. Twenty years ago, the company I worked for sent me to Germany for a few months and I discovered German cigarette cards. Since then, I´ve built up quite a large collection.

Why are there sets listed in Köberich or the World Index which aren't listed on German Cards?

There are several possibilities. Most likely I have just not got around to putting the set on the site. However there are some sets which I suspect don't exist. In this case I will not list them until I have seen an example of the cards.

How can a set be in a catalogue if it does not exist?

There are several possible reasons. Germans collect cards in albums and some entries seem to result from people having stuck the wrong cards in an album. Also Köberich often lists cards under who he thinks produced them rather than what it says on the card. Finally some sets were deliberately invented by Köberich as a check of who plagiarises his catalogue.

Questions about cards

Who or what is Köberich?

Köberich is the German equivalent of Murray. It's not as well produced and is much more expensive. For more information see the Köberich website.

What is a "Serie"?

The word is used in two different senses. It may simply mean a set of cards (also referred to as a "Bildersatz"). However German sets are often divided into groups with each group being given a different number. These groups are sometimes also referred to as a "Serie" (and sometimes a "Gruppe").

Did you notice how I avoided any references to "Ve ask ze kvestions" on this page?
